Dance Tips For Blues Dancing

Just a few tips to get thoughts rolling in the world of social dancing. This is part one, and includes some of the important points to keep in mind as we venture out into the world of blues dancing (other dances too)

  1. Blues Dancing is a dance that everyone can ask someone else to dance in. Leads can ask follows, follows can ask leads, leads can ask leads, and follows can ask follows.
  2. Unless someone asks you to teach them something, teaching on the social dance floor is something we try to avoid doing. This works on the other side as well. If you want someone to show you something or let you know thier thoughts on how you can improve, you need to ask. Social dancing is the fun part. Lay back, let loose, be safe, have fun.
  3. Be aware of smells and sweat. Wear deodorant of some sort, and please do not leave your laundry in the washer too long so it doesn’t have a mildew like smell. We all like dancing with other people, but some people are more sensitive to smell than others. This can also include avoiding intense amounts of perfume or cologne. Also, it is a great idea to being a change of clothes just in case, particularly shirts. Some venues can be very warm, so even though we aren’t moving much… sweat happens.
  4. Intoxication. There comes a certain point in everyones alcohol tolerance that blues dancing might not be the best for them to do after. If you feel you might be getting to that point, it’s perfectly fine to just socialize and have a good time off the dance floor. We want everyone to be safe.
  5. Take some classes before trying the really fancy stuff. It’s great to have classes for the basics, and many people take the beginner classes and feel they have enough to keep them dance happy (which is great). Some of the more fancy dips, drops, movements, and moves that have sudden stops and such you should have a dance instructor teach you so they are taught safely and properly.

I’ll be adding and editing these as time goes by, thanks for stopping in.

Drag Blue Dance Workshop in Tremont – December 12th, 2015

Check out the links on the top of the page to see some wonderful Drag Blues! We will be teaching the basics of the dance, which is a form of blues that is flashy and designed to be fun to dance too, as well as looks great on the dance floor to everyone watching! Paul and Nancy will be teaching this, we are so excited to introduce this fun form of blues. We’ll be starting out with the basics for this workshops to start preparing for more in the future!

The venue is located in Tremont, at 2190 Professor, Tremont (Cleveland), Ohio. The entrance is on 10th street, which intersects Professor close to the address. Parking at the venue is street parking, though I will be chatting with some nearby businesses to see if there are any that would volunteer some spots for us. There was parking within a block for everyone at the last workshop.

The cost for this workshop is $15, which covers three hours of instruction.

Feel free to invite friends! Also, we may be starting weekly classes (also in Tremont) starting the first Thursday in December, let me know if you are interested by sending a note.

My (new) e-mail is makeitblues@gmail.com, if you have any questions or want to reserve a spot!

Blue Dance Workshop in Tremont – Nov. 14, 2015

It’s on my calendar (and should get added to yours too), and in a venue that’s a little larger, so invite your friends! Three hours of blues dance learning. I am thinking of having a more official dance at my place after the workshop. Let me know your thoughts. Also, if anyone knows of some great live music for dancing happening over this weekend, let me know.

Though this workshop will cover different topics, the concept will be the same as the previous workshops we have hosted. We’ll be starting simple, then adding some fun, new concepts, and flash as the workshop progresses. If there is anything specific you would like to see, let me know and I will look to toss it in there. Music in the workshop will be all tempos, so come prepared to dance to a variety of speeds and styles.

For this workshop, we have a venue in Tremont available to us. I will put out the address and directions as it gets closer to the event. Due to the new venue we are looking to start promptly at 12:00 and be out the door by 3:30. Let’s make an awesome impression!

Time 12:00 – 3:15 PM November 14th
What: BLUES!
Cost $15

I may be open my house up for an after dance/game night, which is only about three miles away. If you have music ideas you want added to the playlist shoot me a note. Also, blues can work really well with WCS, so if you know any West Coast Swing Dancers, feel free to invite them as well.

Excited to make this a monthly thing, more exciting news is in the works.
